NEW YORK, NY – February 2011 -– Over 400 minority and women business owners and entrepreneurs attended the 2011 City University of New York (CUNY) & City University Construction Fund (CUCF) + M/WBE: “Partners in Success” Conference held recently at the Two Court Square Conference Center in Long Island City. WABC-TV News reporter Carolina Leid served as moderator, Iris Weinshall, CUNY Vice Chancellor for Facilities Planning, Construction and Management gave the Plenary address and Philip Berry, Vice Chairperson, CUNY Board of Trustees & Acting Chairperson of the CUCF Board of Trustees delivered the keynote address.
Participants attended workshops centered on How to do Business with CUNY and CUCF; How to Become M/WBE Certified; Life After MWBE Certification; Green Purchasing; Green Design; and Prime and Subcontracting Opportunities. There was a Marketplace of 23 CUNY Colleges, University Controller’s Office, Office of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management, CUNY Small Business Development Centers and other affiliated programs. Speed Networking sessions provided participants with opportunities to meet one-on-one with CUNY & CUCF purchasing officers and DASNY. In addition, the Conference provided opportunities to meet with State and City public agencies and construction management prime contractors and professional organizations.
